Neighborhood Spotlight

Trinidad

H Street NE Washington, D.C.

Trinidad is home to a diverse community, a melting pot of cultures if you will and is thriving thanks to a booming H Street corridor. Not only is there a James Beard Semi-Finalist (Best chef, Mid-Atlantic: Erik Bruner-Yang, Maketto), you will find restaurants and cafes serving food from no less than 20 different cuisines, including but not limited to: American, New American, Italian, Ethiopian, British, German, Chinese, Latin, Belgian, Mexican, Japanese, Spanish, Mongolian, Cambodian, Taiwanese, Peruvian, Vietnamese, African, Middle Eastern, Moroccan and Irish!

A short walk north of H Street, anywhere from 10th St NE to 15th St NE, will bring you to Trinidad. There is an active neighborhood association, one highlight is a garden tour each spring - Trinidad Neighborhood Association - Garden Tour, there is a large family contingent with exceptional daycare available, brand new condos and apartments plus an amazing recreation center with playgrounds, turf and a splash park:
The Trinidad Recreation Center is owned and operated by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. It is located at the corner of Childress and Holbrook Streets NE, in the Trinidad neighborhood. The recreation center, which was built in 2007 and was awarded LEED certification in 2009, has an indoor gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, a weight room, an arcade/game room, a computer room, and an arts and crafts room.

Don't forget the annual H Street Festival - it has been a mainstay for over 10 years running, although unfortunately you just missed it this year (September 17, 2016). The festival is a showcase the H Street areas unique qualities, "featuring more than 500 artists and performances on 14 stages plus an array of local, regional and international cuisine, shopping, arts exhibits, educational events, seminars and conversations with local entrepreneurs, artists and community organizations." - http://dc.about.com/
